Abstract: In this study, some algal specimens were collected from the southern part (43°20′~43°50′ N, 88°19′~88°54′ E, 1 104~1 148 m a. s. l.) of the Dabancheng rift valley in Urumqi, Xinjiang, China in June and August 2010, where many wetlands including rivers, swamps, lakes and ponds are distributed. Desmids are very rich in the study area. By referring to a lot of literatures and using the methods of traditional identification, it was found that 6 species, i.e. Cosmarium bioculatum, C. depressum, C. ochthodes, C. pachydermum, C. punctulatum and C. rectangular, were reported for the first time in Xinjiang. In addition, the morphological characteristics of species identification were described. These new records would enrich the study data of Cosmarium in Xinjiang.
